hi there, I am very new to this page. My son is nearly 9, he got diagnosed with high functioning autism when he was in nursery. School tends to be the place he finds the hardest. When he was younger, if he was finding things tough or something would trigger him, he would just have bursts of lashing out. This is something he hasn't done in a while at school, the term right before lockdown was literally the best term he has had. Yesterday and today with going back, has been really hard going. Back to lashing out, he feels like he is on quite a tight fuse, but obviously with covid, teachers are not allowed to hold his hand or help calm him down, which meant 3 phonecalls and he taking him out of school yesterday and this morning a meeting where he was present but he was a completely different child from who I have at home. Sorry I know this was a long one, was just wondering if any others are finding the back to school thing tricky and have any tips on how to help him, breaks my heart seeing how much he dislikes being at school, he is such a lovely boy...but doesn't often show that side there.
