My 6 year old keeps removing his clothes when going to the toilet

Hello, this is my first post. I have a 6 year old son who has ASD. He keeps removing his clothes just before he use's the toilet.

I have just managed to keep his top on, even though he tries to remove it before he sits on the toilet. He will keep it on when I tell him to which is a start.

Do you have any tips and tricks that may help with this.

Many Thanks,

Louise.

  • As an autistic adult, I have to take off all my clothes to go to the bathroom. The only problem I ran into as a child was taking longer in the bathroom. I’ve never had any other problem besides that. It would be best to let your child do what makes them most comfortable unless there is real concern of causing a public disturbance such as fully undressing before entering the stall or something.

As a child, choices are very limited and can make symptoms people find annoying worse. As I got older, I was able to control a lot of things that made me have meltdowns and bad days as a child. Not everything, of course. But things got better.

Please allow your child to make as many of their own choices as possible. It makes life better.
