my son received diagnosis aafter four years of on going dialogue with the school he is now 13 and now school say can't have him the lea say he should be in maistream school  in all of this I have an anxious boy struggling with diagnosis a school that won't let him go on trips  and yet he just has some issues in certain subjects where his confidence is lacking  -

teachers have said he is a legend in some subjects  so right now don't know which way to turn other than getting some bbalance for him - we haven't access right now to . Any support or a advice other than books .  has anyone been through something similar?

  • hi creativemum - what a confusing, worrying situation for all of you.  I haven't been in the situation you describe.  I'm sure others will be along soon to help.

    Has your son got a statement of educational needs?  Also I wd ring the nas helpline and/or check out the nas site to see what your rights are.  The info you've given appears, to me at least, to indicate that the school/LEA are not abiding by procedures.  I wd appeal pronto, it'll buy you time to think things thru.   I wd also write to the school governors, detailing your concerns about how things have been handled with a copy to the LEA. You need time to get good advice + make an informed decision about the best place for your son to be educated.  He sounds talented.  You shd visit the special school to check it out. I hope your son isn't struggling too much with all this.  It wd be difficult enough for anybody to deal with, never mind someone with asd.  As you know, all you can do is to reassure him that things will work out, whilst you sort things out on his behalf.  What does he want to do about it all?
