choosing an ASD friendly school in Birmingham

I am a father of a 9 year old child that has been diagnosed with ASD.

He is managing reasonably well in his mainstream primary school that is very switched on to the extent that it has not necessary to share formally his diagnosis as they have worked out his educational, social needs. Academically he is probably average.

We are in the process of having to choose a secondary school and we are lost.

I am interested to hear from any parents living in Birmingham and in particular in the Edgbaston, Harborne, Quinton area about their experience with local schools.

Schools that are good for children with ASD and schools to avoid.

Two schools under consideration are Harborne Academy and University of Birmingham secondary school.

I have spoken with respective SENCOs who painted a positive picture, but I would be interested to hear about the 'real experience' of ASD children and their carers.

Advice about any other school welcome.

In return, I can testify that Harborne primary school is very ASD friendly.

We chose it by accident, but proved to be a great school.

Happy to provide more information if required.
