Hi
This is my first post and I'm looking to try and improve my understanding and reassure myself that I'm not the only parent in this situation (clearly I'm not and am in the right place!).
My daughter is 6. In November it was confirmed that she has sensory processing issues and last month she took the ADOS 2 Module 3 and we did the ADIR interview as well. We have had a report stating that she met the criteria for autism on the ADOS but that it might be heightened due to ADHD, though it's unclear whether her fidgeting is sensory based or attention based. We've been told we have to wait for a formal diagnosis from a psychiatrist but this could take months and an ADHD assessment could take years. Has anybody else found themselves in this kind of limbo?
Secondly, without going in to too much detail, my daughter has been fighting taking medication (other than calpol) recently. She hates the feel of an emollient cream, she refused her nasal flu inoculation and today she refused to let a doctor examine her, ending in a meltdown (to be fair to her the doctor had made no attempt to build a rapport with her and hadn't looked at her medical notes) - but I ended up feeling like a bad parent for not forcing her to be examined. Does anybody else have issues like this and how do you overcome them?
Thanks in advance for any replies
