New sibling

Hi, I'm new to this so forgive me if it's already been discussed.

My son is 3 and only got diagnosed with autism in November 2019 and is non verbal at the moment, he attends nursery 5 mornings 8-11am so that he can socialise with kids his ages. From an early age he was always at play groups and what not but never really liked other kids much he preferred to play on his own.

It just got me thinking that would he benefit from having a sibling? He gets quite protective of me and when ever I'm holding one of my friends babies he hates it and tries to hit the baby or pull at the baby to get it away from me. I'm just thinking that if I was ever to have another baby if he would cope with it for one, and if it would actually be beneficial for him.

If anyone has had similar thoughts and went through with it, can you please help, what was the outcome and any info you could provide would be great.

Thanks in advance.

  • My first born is 7 and I had another a year ago, I was so worried my first would get jealous, kick off ect so I got her involved as much as possible from choosing names, clothing, seeing the scans etc. When she was born it took awhile for her to adjust but again got her involved in helping. A year down the line and they are now inseperable. My first will do anythifn she can to help. They do have little disagreements with toys but that's what siblings do.

My first is extremely demanding, as in I want this and I want it now. She is still very demanding but when she's with her sister is she the most caring and loving person I know.
