HFA gets worse at senior school?

My son has not yet been diagnosed with HFA yet, we are going through that process now . His primary school and now is secondary school SENCO believe he is HFA. Since starting secondary school his behaviour at home is worse and more frequent, and as at primary school, his behaviour at secondary school is exemplary. Has anybody else experienced this with the transition and does it settle down?

  • Dear NAS64878,

I am sorry to hear that you are struggling with your son's behaviour at home.  Hopefully the Community will come back with more responses.  But in the meantime, rest assured that this is quite common and you may find the information on this page of our website useful: www.autism.org.uk/.../school-home.aspx

You might like to consider contacting our Parent to Parent service for advice and support - the details of this service are here: www.autism.org.uk/.../parent-to-parent.aspx

Alternatively, you may like to contact our Autism Helpline team who can provide you with information and advice . You can contact the team via telephone on 0808 800 4104 (Monday to Thursday 10am to 4pm, Friday 9am to 3pm). Please note that the Helpline is experiencing a high volume of calls and it may take a couple of attempts before you get through to speak to an advisor.

    I hope that helps.

    Kind regards,

    Kerri-Mod
