8 year olds anger

My 8 yr old son has ASD and ADHD and is getting increasingly angry to the point he is now hitting children at school and his siblings at home. Often we can’t work out the trigger and he can’t/won’t tell us, and he flips in seconds so any calm down techniques we’ve tried have failed (such as counting to ten etc). We’ve praised him when he’s had a good day, but his anger is getting worse and we don’t know what step to try next.

He’s incredibly anxious a lot and hates school anyway, and his attention span is getting worse too. I don’t know what to try next with him, does anyone have any suggestions?? The school Senco has asked if we have thought of medication for his ADHD but he’s terrified of the idea of taking tablets (and he has a phobia of doctors) so I don’t think that would work for him. He also has sensory processing disorder and is being tested for dyslexia so he’s more than fed up of doctors!!

  • Our 7 year old takes risperidone in liquid form, which can be put in a drink, and sertraline, which is in tablet form. He is still very challenging but it has made a big difference. I'd say it's worth trying.  It might be hard to introduce it into his routine once you do it could make a big difference
