In recent years a small handful of primary schools have purchased balance bikes and they have been very effective at teaching children how to ride without stabilisers. Considering that many children with ASD have difficulty learning to ride a bike with approximately half of them unable to ride without stabilisers by their 10th birthday, then why doesn't the NAS promote a greater deployment of balance bikes in schools? I have met several parents who think that every primary school should have balance bikes but the local NAS doesn't share the same view. Is there is a reason for it other than it not being part of the National Curriculum?
