18 yr son ehcp

Hi I would like to ask if anyone has been through what my son has with regards to college in March my son got withdrawn due to sleep and ASD and ocd he was struggling with the course and also the pressure that went with it we went to doctors as I was concerned where this coud go they give him mitrazipine and reference him to sleep specialist who dignosed him with delayed sleep phase syndrome and restless legs also said him had migraines my so became very Isoleted stayed in more and just so hard to watch but in September he went back to college and he was finding it ok but things got to much and so they said they won't reduce his timetable to afternoons this was in October 11 I have had means saying he can't carry on like this has he will miss too much I am at a loss as he can't help the way he is he only gesture to college 3 days a week the rest of the time he stays in his room to get himself ready for the next week if they withdraw him I don't know how he will take it has anyone been through this just not sure what his rights are thank you for any help.

Hi I am just writing to say his support worker at college wants a meeting to see how he is doing so wish me luck

Thank you yes I have been in touch with them just wanted to know if anyone else had been through the same thing want to jut say thank you to the replys reality appreciate it it means a lot.

It's so frustrating when medical professionals just put everything down to autism - we're still affected by mental health and it's still treatable. I hope everything works out for you both.

My sons GP just say it's to do with his autism and have not helped with any thing else he has a mentor and s support worker but they know about his issues thank you for your help

I'm sorry to hear your son's struggling. Has he ever considered talking therapies? I have ASD and OCD, both of which have an impact on my sleep. I've been having cognitive behavioural therapy for my OCD over the last few months and it's really helped with my sleep.

The college should be able to make reasonable adjustments. Do they have a welfare/wellbeing advisor? If so, it might be worth getting advice from them. You could also get advice from the Citizens' Advice Bureau or the National Autistic Society's helpline.
