SEN advice

Hi,

I have an amazing 5 yr old son who has autism (clinically diagnosed).

Does anybody know whether the school needs parental consent to put a child on the SEN register?

I’ve googled and can’t find a clear answer! Id be grateful to hear your experience (s).

xx

  • Hi, I'm not sure if this will answer your question but I will tell you what happened in my case. When my two year old daughter (now diagnosed autistic) had a review with her paediatrician a week after her 2nd birthday back in February, she was diagnosed with global development delay (the list is growing and still awaiting genetic testing!) and the paediatrician filled in and sent a section 23 form to the local education authority which he had a statutory duty to do. This has enabled us to get 2 year old Nursery funding for her and funding for a 1:1 at her nursery school. She will also be getting a ONE plan. If he was diagnosed before school age then your local authority should have been informed and thus he should be entitled to SENCO input:

  • Hi,

Good to know about section 23. My daughter is at preschool but she didn’t has one to one support. Will ask the paediatrician when we see him on 17th.

She has extra 15 hours funding but preschool refused to provide her one to one.
