I have been given the go ahead to run a short training session for staff on Autism at the college where I work. I do have a lot of ideas, too many probably! But I would be really grateful for some feedback. For those of you on the spectrum, what do you think the main things teachers should know? What would have helped you? Parents, carers same thing really. I'd like to present all the different perspectives if I can. Our students are 16-18. I want to promote a positive theme ie if you can get the environment right there is huge potential.
Also I have been thinking about doing something to promote awareness with the students,but this has been refused as yet. My hope was to plan a tutor session which the tutors could deliver. Clearly the audience would include students with ASD. Is this a problem do you think, would it make those students uncomfortable?
