My 9 year old son has just developed a massive fear of wasps and is having very big over the top reactions every time he sees one, even if it is far away.
Any advice on how to help him through this ?

I have a severe phobia of flying insects (namely bumblebees, wasps and hornets) and it has previously affected my ability to even approach flowers or bushes, control myself in public when a bee or wasp buzzes or flies near me or if it appears as though it’s going to land on me. It seems to have gotten progressively worse over the years but it started when a bumblebee landed on me in Primary school and when a wasp flew around the table in Nice, France when I was 8.
I’ve been seeing a hypnotherapist who previously worked at My Mum’s school and I have learned some strategies to control and keep myself calm in these situations. Especially when I have stress, anxiety or depression running through me. These sessions can be expensive (>£50 if you plan to do them for a couple of weeks or could cost >£250) and I would only advise it if you’re positive it could work (it’s difficult to hypnotise autistic people, especially young children with autism) and you’d see the results are worth the time and money. I’d ask if there were anyone at his school or even if you could help him to cope with his phobia.
Now there’s very little ‘advice’ I can give, but the best thing he needs is anything to reduce his stress levels. It always creates havoc for phobias and autism.
As a teenager I got stung in the eyelid by one and since then I run away from them whenever I see one.
