Routine soiling

Any tips on how to curb this, please?!

I work with a young adult with severe autism, very controlling and very routine based (and a total sweetheart!).

Each morning he is waking up soiled and even when he is woken up clean, he will wait until he is soiled, often forcing this to happen.

We think this is happening as a way to delay his routines and control the situation (as is what happens with most other routines that we have to change in order to regain control and move him onto the next routine...) Not quite sure how we can approach this one though!

Has this happened to anyone? Any tips?!

Thank you :)

  • Very kind of you but perhaps I should have been more specific; he's perfectly able
to use the toilet and control bodily functions; this is something he's choosing to do!
There are plenty of routines that he changes to control staff, the environment, routines etc. However, for the most part, we are able to curb these by things like distraction and redirecting...... Not sure how we can find a way around this one though!
