Aspergers 12 year old - counselling / friendships

Hi,

My daughter is 12 and I am pretty sure she is an Aspergers child.  We are undergoing the diagnosis process.  During her meltdowns my daughter punches herself and I worry about her behaviours.

My daughter would love to have a friend but she struggles with friendships, if she sees others post on social media saying they are out or having a sleep over together etc she really takes this to heart and then won’t speak with them again.  I will do anything so she can have a social life but her friends group is getting smaller all the time so now there is only one girl who she likes.

I organised a counsellor for her so she can talk about the negative feelings that make her punch herself and anything else.  However I sat in one of the sessions and I really don’t think the counsellor has the expertise to deal with her.

Can anyone offer an opinion if counselling has helped them, if there are specialist counsellors for children with Aspergers?

Any advice on how she can become better socially so she has friends?  She does go to groups and she fits in it’s the next step of having a friend that she needs help with.

Thanks for reading this x
