Daughter starting high school

This is a stressful time for my daughter and I'm waiting to find ouf if she'll get assistance to travel to school.  She is vulnerable and will be scared.  I am wondering if there is a tracker available where she can contact me at a touch of a button if she needs help.  Preferably with the option of hearing her and being able to talk to her.

I've discounted getting her a phone for these reasons:

1) Social media and texts.  She gets bullied enough and doesn't understand when she says things that can cause her to be teased or which will make her friends fall out with her.

2) In a stressful situation she might not be able to make a call.

3) She may feel prevented from making a call but if she can discreetly press a button to raise the alarm it would be easier.

  • My daughter started secondary school last September and only managed the short walk to school for a week - since then we have had to drive her both ways because she found it too stressful and was coming home absolutely distraught. She has a phone and in fact couldn't really manage school without it because all their homework is logged on the phone, they do quizzes and research sometimes in school using their phone etc. She also has to regularly call me to tell me she has forgotten her PE bag etc, which I can then dash up to her before she gets into trouble! I would love to be able to do away with mobile phones and completely agree with your worries re social media but for my daughter, not being able to contact me would cause her far more distress. I know this doesn't help with your question but just thought it was worth sharing my experience (sorry if it makes things harder!).

  • It does help.  It gives advantages to where a mobile would be useful.  Maybe a phone would be a solution, especially if I can find a way to send an alert if she needs help.  Thank you
