Daughter starting high school

This is a stressful time for my daughter and I'm waiting to find ouf if she'll get assistance to travel to school.  She is vulnerable and will be scared.  I am wondering if there is a tracker available where she can contact me at a touch of a button if she needs help.  Preferably with the option of hearing her and being able to talk to her.

I've discounted getting her a phone for these reasons:

1) Social media and texts.  She gets bullied enough and doesn't understand when she says things that can cause her to be teased or which will make her friends fall out with her.

2) In a stressful situation she might not be able to make a call.

3) She may feel prevented from making a call but if she can discreetly press a button to raise the alarm it would be easier.

  • I don't really know of anything that meets that criteria, I understand the hesitation about social media but why not a cheap phone without internet? If you program your number in all she would have to do is push and hold a button to call you.

It doesn't solve the text issues but if you explain not giving the number out as it is only for emergency contact.

  • It's surprisingly difficult to work a phone when in a crisis.  I had to call 999 for a stranger a couple of years ago and I struggled to work my phone.  The stranger was delirious so I shouldn't have struggled as much as I did. Even though I had made 100's of calls on it, that didn't seem to matter.
