Hair cut suggestions

Hi all,

i'm new to this My daughter Sofia is 5 and has autisum. She really hates having her hair washed and brushed and when i say hate i mean screams.cries, bites me,punches me its always been a problem. However she has never had her hair cut and could really use a haircut but i'm so scared of taking her to a hairdressers because of how she is with anything to do with her hair.Has anyone got any suggestions, tips anything please?

  • Ahhh bless her :( the music is a good idea i never thought of that one! and the cup sounds good too as my daughter hates the shower.Thank you thats really helpful x

  • My daughter hates the bath always has even as a baby. We found playing music she likes helps distract her, and we use moisturiser and cotton pad for the neck as that is a no go for washing! Her hair we do slowly with a cup (can't stand shower head) and she sits in the tub as she won't hang over the side (can't stand being upside down)  one drip of water near her face and she's out of that tub so fast! I limited it to once a week for hair wash on set day and time so she knows is coming that helps her

  • Thats a good idea thank you! Yes its awful feel so terrible doing it she doesnt like it being washed/brushed either :( but of course these things have to be done.Just want to try make it easier for her anyway i can.

  • I would suggest ringing round local hairdressers to see if they have autism friendly services, some do. Or one of the people that does home visits.

My daughter is 8 and the same with her hair it's a sensory issue with how the brush feels I think although I have tried loads! It's also a massive struggle to wash her hair as she hates the water!

We have only managed to get her hair cut twice, it is almost long enough to sit on! She is improving with brushing as she gets older (still hates it but understands it needs doing) but we are still not allowed to cut it!

Sorry I can't be more help
