Teen group needed for 15 year old with recently diagnosed ASD

my 15 year old son Augie was diagnosed 10 months ago as high functioning ASD. He has had to drop out of school with anxiety and depression, and his difficulty in dealing with neurotypical teens etc. He is now home schooled but very sad and lonely. We desperately want him to find his own tribe. Are there any teen ASD groups meeting in london? Or would anyone like to join one if we start it?

  • Hi

I've mentioned this lots of times on other threads but have you considered Explorer Scouts?   They're 14-18 year olds and normally mixed boys/girls.

It's a couple of hours a week and it's focussed on activities - it's very accepting of differences so it's a safe, adult-supervised social event - and you get to do some cool stuff like climbing, shooting, raft-building, orienteering etc.   They work hard to be very inclusive and, because it's driven by the leader, it's all about building teams and working together.

    Might be worth looking at.

I'm an old fart and I go to an Aspie group - but I'm having difficulty because, as it's a spectrum condition, I'm right at the top end and a lot of the others are at the other end.   It's a bunch of people all in the same room but I couldn't say it's very 'social'.

Also - London is a big place - have a look on the NAS pages to see if there's a group near you.
