  • Hi I’m in the exact same position as you with my son, he’s just turned 3 and we have tried but failed so any tips you get or advice would be really helpful. We are being referred to our local “nappy service” which we were told about through his nursery, it’s basically an incontinance service that provides bigger nappies that you don’t pay for. Ideally like you I’d like my little one out of nappies for school but he’s non verbal so it’s going to be a challenge.

    Good luck x

  • Hi Julie thank you for reply I will definitely look up the nappy service didn’t even know it existed I need to speak to health visitors and see what they say she just doesn’t ask to go or let you know I don’t know if she even knows only thing I thought was literally taken her every half an hour but I know she won’t have the ability to do it her self am fingers crossed she gets it from now til September

  • I don’t know if that’s what it will be called that’s just what our inclusion worker at nursery referred to it as but if you speak to your health visitor and ask about the service then they should be able to get you details.

I will keep everything crossed for you and hope you succeed.

With my little one not talking and having no real form of communication I literally don’t know where to start. I’ve tried to just sit him on the toilet with the lid down to get him used to it but he totally freaks out so I’m back to the drawing board!

  • Hi julie would be great to speak further as it is a bit difficult to reply on here my e-mail address is lisa.wallace81@hotmail.co.uk no pressue if you dont thanks lisa

  • Hi

I haven’t looked at that website no but I will do now you have mentioned it thank you. Yes we had to pay private for it as we didn’t get offered any help on NHS from Child Development Centre. We started PECs but my son is struggling to stay motivated to want to communicate. I have since been told last week when I rang the Child Development Centre that my son actually needs specialised speech and language therapy for which he is on a huge waiting list and there are only two people in our area that serves the whole of our local authority. They told me one to one speech therapy or group sessions were a waste of time as he is just not willing to communicate.

Got a few important meetings this week that might shed a bit more light on just exactly what they mean by specialised.
