Private EP report

Hi there, we recently had a private ep report. The wording is very vague and wooley. How much am I legally able to challenge this with ep so report is more legally binding for LA to be held accountable to ensure certain therapies etc are delivered for my child?

  • How did you get your private EP? Was it legal aid?

    Did you pay her?

By law provisions should be specified, what therapy/support exactly, how many hours, how often, by whom/with what qualifications, how small the small group etc.

IPSEA have specific letters/wording about this when challenging the LA.

But your problem is deeper, the private EP didn't make specific recommendations. Either she is in conflict of interest because she also does some work for the LA and didn't disclose it to you, or she can't recommend anything based on tests she ran. The latter problem is about experience and competence. There are always some finer grain tests that would reveal something and allow to make recommendations. Sadly the price is often indication of the value you get. Can you withhold payments based on some complaint you can raise and get another, more confident and more independent EP.

Talk also to NAS educational advice line and to SOSSEN, try Ambitious about autism.. They may give an idea what could be recommended in similar cases. Ask IPSEA and all others what you could do about the EP. That would give you ammunition to talk to her.

You should be able to challenge your private EP to make recommendations specified. They have a professional standards body. Talk to her after advice.

Unless she is useless and didn't do the assessment/tests that enable her to make the specific recommendations. Demand that she runs more tests.
