DLA to PIP for 16 year old

Hello all,

My Autistic son is turning 16 soon and has been entitled to DLA for the past few years. I have received a letter from the DWP explaining that he will be entitled to PIP (subject to assessment) next year when his DLA stops. I just have a few questions for those of you who may have been through this process if I may please.

Firstly they have asked me what account o pay the DLA into once he turns 16 and up until he is able to apply for PIP. As he is unable to handle finances appropriately I will of course ask for it to be paid into my account, I will therefore be his appointee. Has anyone else had success with this transition? I guess its just a formality as he is turning 16 but he is certainly unable to control finances and he would not be able to report changes in his condition either.

Secondly I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has applied for PIP for a child with Autism. Of course I appreciate that all cases are unique but I have no idea about applying for PIP and understand it is quite different from the application for DLA. What does the application entail for example and what would they ask of his at his assessment?

With many thanks and kind regards in advance.
