Autistic adults treat like children.

If an Autistic adult behaves like a child does one treat it like a child.

On a different list adults wrote do not put me to bed.

I thought that is ridiculous as they are all adults but they identify with children.

 

In fact in 1983 I went to a Therapeudic Community in Jerusalem which had an American Unit.

They treated them like children by having restrictions to the building as punishment.

They even had a points system with pocket money given out according to points earned.

I refused to sign the contract so left  that community nearly thirty years ago in 1984.

They did not know I was Autistic and we did not accept that in tose days.

The Community was for the mentally ill.

I do not know if it is a good idea to treat Autistic adults and mentally ill adults like children.

  • I did mention at the interviews before I started Summit that I had been to the Maudsley Hospital but not the fact they had recommended an Autiistic School.

     

    I also do not know if that Therepeudic Community read that a Psychiatrist had put on my notes that I was mildly Autistic although my Psychiatric reports were sent to Israel

    I am sure that the Psychologist had heard of the Maudsley although she said that spent years in the States where she picked up her Engliah.

    No that Therepeudic Community was really for the Mentally ill and I do not know if the staff knew anything about me being supposed to be Autisitic.

     

    The point is NT children miss behave but there is hope that when they grow up they are likely to stop their offending behaviour.

    Autistic children often when they grow up do not stop their offending behaviour what do parents and carers do then?  Autistic adults can become strong.

    They are sometimes children in a grown up bodies..
