Advice needed plz

Hi everyone, im new to this page but wud really appreciate some advise. Today at school, my autistic son,15, was took out on a geography field trip to the local beach. As he doesnt like loud noises or overcrowded places he asked if he cud stay behind + was told no! So reluctantly he went with his headphones. After they were on the beach for 10mins approx the group headed on up the promenade to the local cafe. Again my son felt out of his comfort zone + didnt want to go in so was told by his teacher to wait on the bench outside the cafe, were he sat uncomfortably for 20mins terrified if he moved he wuda been shouted at. On returning to school + on the verge of a meltdown he txt me to pick him up early. I told him to go to the office + tell them he wasnt feeling well + cud they phone me to collect him. At this time i didnt know about the cafe trip...nobody phoned + i collected him at normal time wen i then found out about my son with special needs was left alone outside a cafe! Im so angry that he was put in this position but i know if i go in to school i will go mad...any help appreciated plz.....Tia x

  • Hi NAS7240,

From your post I'm not sure what type of education environment your son is currently attending, so this might not all be relevant for you- but you might find some of the following helpful:

The following article contains a lot of helpful information about education for a child with an autism:http://www.autism.org.uk/about/in-education.aspx This includes information regarding getting extra support for your child in their education setting.

It can help to pass on information specifically for education professionals about autism spectrum disorders. The following link contains information written for education professionals:

  • At my children's primary school they have to ask to take any child off the premises.

However when my son was in secondary school he was allowed off site for activities and such as cross country without consent but any out of town trip required consent I know schools have to carry out risk assessments for any trip and leaving a child unattended would certainly pose a risk so I think I would demand an explanation of events, I personally would also ask to see a copy of the risk assessment
