Withdrawing Child from preschool

Hi,

My wife and I have chosen to withdraw our Autistic son from preschool immediately due to his needs not being me and we feel that he is being discriminated against. This is due to the lack of effort to include him in activities for example not taking him outside because there is no one on one available, despite someone waiting inside to clean the room so the staff can depart as soon as possible after the session, so he would be in a room with someone cleaning not entertaining/interacting with him at an appropriate level. Sending him home on certain days (last day in before christmas as it was a play day with little structure). There are numerous examples and these have all been very distressing for my wife. We have sent a pleasant message to the head saying he won't be returning to which she replied a lengthy and rather aggressive message. Also stating that we need to give notice and that we will have to pay a months tuition. I appreciate this is often the case but with what we feel were fair grounds to withdraw him immediately and that he's not been supported in the right way and don't believe we should have to pay anything. We will be seeking legal advice however, Please let me know if anyone has an opinion or any first hand experience.

  • He was also not allowed to feature in the school play as they though he would be disruptive and would get 'bad press' from the parents. Its an example of discrimination that actually features on the citizens advice website

    Example

Your daughter is disabled and has been told she can’t participate in the school Christmas play. This is because of her disruptive behaviour. Her behaviour is something which is connected to her disability. This is therefore likely to be discrimination arising from disability.

The school should also consider what reasonable adjustments it can make to allow your daughter to participate in the play.

  • Hi my grandson is 3 yrs and 4 months and was diagnosed with autism in August 2018

to date he has failed to access a nursery placement despite my other grandson of the sane age accessing s placement when he was 2 1/2 .

My daughter is a single parent and is raising her 2 children on her own  my grandson being the youngest of the two

she’s finding it hard to access the proper supports for her son who until 6 mins age was non verbal His behaviour s at times can be very challenging as he doesn’t sleep and can be very destructive

we are trying to access a nursery placement that will offer her some  respite but also a place that will stimulate and offer structure to my grandson His As diagnoses reported he was ihypo sensitive disorder therefore requires a lot of sensory stimulation but trying to access a service that is equipped to meeting his needs in Glasgow has been difficult

if snyone can offer and advice or good nurseries and schools for the future would be most appreciated
