Has my son got autism/sensory disorder?

My nearly 3 year old cries dramatically whenever we do any of the following... dry his hair, touch his ears, wipe his eyes/nose/mouth/chin, cut his fingernails and toenails, get his hair cut, brush his teeth, wash his hair, put a hat on him, put a jumper on over his head, clean his hands, touch his toes, wears too many layers ie dressing gown or a thick coat. There is more than this! It's daily. It's a cry like he's really upset and emotional, and sometimes it seems like he's in pain too. 

I have been to the health visitor, and I'm attending sensory workshops next month to help parents learn how to live with a child suffering with sensory issues. It isn't personalised for my child's needs, it's a group workshop for multiple parents. After the workshops, if his behaviour continues, (which I can't see it suddenly changing), I then have to go back to the health visitors and be referred again from scratch. 

Please, could anyone with similar experiences, give me any information or help as to what could possibly be going on with my little boy? I have 2 older children, and I can't help but compare, so I know his behaviour isn't 'normal'.  He also didn't talk until 2and a half, he needed speech and language sessions.

    My little boy is like this to some extent, he doesn’t turn 3 until April but I’ve had my concerns a long time so when it was time for his 2 year 2 month assessment I pushed for it to be done early and got the referral through my health visitor to Child Development Centre and we are now six months in to that process with them. They are lookin to diagnose my son in September when it will have been a year since we had our initial assessment.

    If I can give you any advice it would be to be pushy with your health visitor/GP and tell them you’re concerned and you want a referral now not after the workshops because it’s a very long process, it took from May to September to just get seen initially for us. The earlier you can get the help in the better for you and your little one.

  • I would suggest a visit to the gp alongside the sensory workshop that the health visitor suggested, express your concerns to the doctor along with any others point out the language delay as well as sensory problems, ask for a referral. 

    You may find the group helps, not that it will solve the problem but it may give you different ways to handle it and will also put you in contact with others with similar issues
