Can I ask for advice?

My 14 year old son has been living in Denmark with his mother, my ex, for the past 10 years.

He is returning to the UK very soon.

For a variety of reasons I am thinking of enrolling him on one of the online GCSE schools.

Has anybody any experience of these schools and if so could you recommend one.

Many thanks

  • Hi, a quick google search reveals many online GCSE websites in the UK. However, I could not vouch for the validity of these websites and they seem rather expensive! I assume his SENCO is based in England? Surely the SENCO should be able to advise on this online learning? I know some people do home school their children for a variety of different reasons. I’d like to think that the local education authority or similar would supply them with their GCSE course materials rather than them having to pay through the roof for it! I really think the SENCO needs to advise you on this

  • Hi Kitsun

My son has been allowed to not attend school in Denmark.

He has also been isolated, staying in his room.

This has been going on for quite some time, hence issues around attending school have been allowed to build up and fester.

He would be a severe school refuser.

    He has ASD..

The plan is to use an online provider in the short term and slowly reintroduce him to school and social interaction.

I have been discussing this with SENCO.

However the hope is that he will gradually return to a system.

Any advice on online schools would be really helpful.

    Thanks

  • Hello and welcome. Is your son diagnosed with ASD? Won’t he be going to an English school when he returns to do his GCSEs? Why do you want to enroll him on one of the online GCSE schools? Sorry that I’ve asked a lot of questions but I’m just trying to get a clearer picture of the situation here
