11 year old son recently diagnosed - what do I do next?

Hi

we recently finally got a diagnosis for my 11 year old son. After years of trying to get help, but because he didn’t want to be ‘different ‘ he hid it from school and just had outbursts at home.

Hes intelligent, articulate and keeps it all together at school. He does suffer from anxiety and for a while couldn’t eat in the main hall with the other children due to noise and no space. He’s recwntly gone back into the hall and sits on a table with his friend who has similar traits to him.

I sent school a copy of the diagnosis on 7th January and asked the senco for a meeting to discuss. I’ve still not had a meeting. I’m going to chase school again. I feel that because he doesn’t cause problems in class, is high achieving and is leaving in the summer they don’t feel they should do anything.

A friend said they should put an iep in place but nothing has happened. Any idea what I should do or ask the school for?

We are still waiting to find out what secondary school he’s going to but will need lots of support with transition as he doesn’t do well with change.

Any ideas of what I need to do or ask next Wills be much appreciated. Thank you
