Confused

so today I went to see a paediatrician and he basically said my son will most likely be diagnosed with autism. But I till he has speech therapy they won’t start diagnosis. They also want him to have genetics blood test and go to an assessment nursery (which I have never heard of).

I am kinda at a loss howbhe can say oh he will likely be diagnosed but we won’t assess him yet. Just looking. For guidance really as my partner is just annoying he down plays everything making my son better than he is.

Just a mum looking for help help and support

  • You probably will not get a diagnoses until 3.5 years old +/- This seems to be a time when the specialist will feel confident of his diagnoses to state it in writing. it was also so over 3 decades ago, even though your son may well be exhibiting classic symptoms to a trained eye, and are well documented, and possibly the reason for your concern today.

I presume your pediatrician will require a report from Child Behavior specialists on your son's interaction with others of the same age. There may well be one in the hospital.

As others here say, speech can develop late in a non AS child for personal reasons. Again he will need a report of a speech specialist.

These will no doubt also include audiologists to report on his hearing ranges to see if that is affecting his speech development.

With regards to a blood test, after my son was diagnosed over 3 decades ago. In a search as to why he may have become autistic. I requested a blood test as I had read that is the child has what was referred to as Fragile X Syndrome that could be a genetic reason.

The letter I have back from my Son's Pediatrician, gave 4-5 other diseases that were associated with autism, withe a request not to quote him as others, his peers, may not agree with him. What he did not do was to: was to inform me my Son was deprived of oxygen during childbirth and suffered brain damage.

So your Son's Pediatrician will get reports confirming his thoughts before he will commit to a diagnoses.

Your Partner may be trying his best to lessen both your fears.

While your son is manageable, being small try to do as much together as a Family while you can, because your pediatrician is sufficiently concerned to give your son a series of specialists examination in their own right.
