Hi, My 11 yo son with HFA is currently in a complete state of permanent anxiety about having the smallest drip of wee on him after he uses the toilet - this is nothing more than one drip, not incontinence.
I have tried talking him through all the biological aspects eg how long the urethra is, teaching him to "shake", how one drip is not harmful etc..
Nothing is seeming to work. He will change his underwear/clothes several times a day. And will get very emotional when he thinks he has done enough, pulls up his pants and the dreaded wee drip appears.
Anyone have any experience with this? Suggestions please....
Hi NAS50203,
In addition to the community response, I am hoping that this link to our Autism and Toileting page may be of some help - https://www.autism.org.uk/professionals/teachers/myworldhub/autism-and-toileting.aspx
It may also be worth calling the Autism Helpline to see if they have any other advice? Contact our Autism Helpline team who can provide you with information and advice. You can contact the team via telephone on 0808 800 4104 (Monday to Thursday 10am to 4pm, Friday 9am to 3pm). Please note that the Helpline is experiencing a high volume of calls and it may take a couple of attempts before you get through to speak to an advisor. Alternatively, should you prefer to send a message, you can do so via their webform - https://www.autism.org.uk/services/helplines/main/questions.aspx
Hope this helps,
