Private diagnosis

Hi There, i am the father of a 14 year old boy in need of help, ever since he was young my son showed signs of being on the spectrum, he hated school from day one and still does, socially awkward(as am i) he would zone out wringing and clapping his hands, only drink from certain cups, new clothes were almost impossible to wear, no physical contact, too much noise or groups of people like parties a no-no etc..etc, his first school were quite good with an internal team that said it was a senses thing, took him out of music, languages, drama, he still hated school so we tried another school close by and things have got so much worse, he has had so many exclusions he may be permanently excluded, he has run away 3 times and lots more, his mum and i were referred to the lighthouse centre for diagnosis but asked back a year later to fill in a questionaire and still waiting, i feel i have let him down but not forcing the issue and maybe a diagnosis would help in some way, private diagnosis an option but really don't know where to turn, sorry for long post.

It sounds like you are having a worrying time. You may like to contact our Autism Helpline team who can provide you with information and advice? You can contact the team via telephone on 0808 800 4104 (Monday to Thursday 10am to 4pm, Friday 9am to 3pm). Please note that the Helpline is experiencing a high volume of calls and it may take a couple of attempts before you get through to speak to an advisor. Alternatively, should you prefer to send a message, you can do so via their webform - https://www.autism.org.uk/services/helplines/main/questions.aspx

Here's a link to our Diagnosis page which has lots of different information and a link to The Lorna Wing Centre for Autism (which offers private diagnosis services) - https://www.autism.org.uk/about/diagnosis.aspx

If you give your rough location (city or nearest big town) the community may be able to help with suggestions for other centres/services that provide a Private Diagnosis?

    Hope this helps,
