Mentor for my 15 year old nephew

Hello - I'm new to this site, so apologies if I'm going about this the wrong way....

My nephew is 15, he’s autistic and lives in north London, with his parents and older brother.

We (his parents and I) would be very interested in exploring the possibility of a mentor for him – we were thinking a high functioning autistic young man (a few years older than my nephew) would be perfect.

My nephew is lonely, finds it difficult to tell us how he’s feeling, is going through puberty, and feels isolated.

He would find it difficult to exchange emails, but he would benefit from talking about his concerns, everyday frustrations, and thoughts face-to-face with someone who has gone through the same kind of things as him, can give him hope and direction.

He loves superheroes (Deadpool in particular), Manga and Pokémon, his other interests are animals and the environment.

Can you point us in the right direction? Are there any charities/groups out there which you can recommend and could help us?

  • Thanks Nicky. I'd seen the befriending and mentoring link but my nephew would find it hard to email someone so I've discounted that route for now. I'm going to email all the North London branches and groups and see what that brings up. In the meantime - if anyone knows of any schemes I'd be really interested! Thanks.
