IS IT ASD?

Hi everyone

Please can someone advise.  My younger son is 5 and I got him diagnosed with ASD with speech and communicaiton problems last August.  I them manged to get him into a really good special needs school for children with autism and other learning difficulties within the ASD area.  I have a 10 year old with cerebral palsy ASD, and severe learning difficulties and husband walked last September and now am divorced.

I have seen the other 4 little boys in my sons class with ASD and they are totally different to him, they are calmer but obviously are ASD.  I have a really bad feeling that he is hyperactive as well.  He cannot sit still, concentration poor, he fidgets when he is sat down, he is aggressive at times, if you tell him off it goes in one ear and out the other he is constantly on the go the only thing that is positive is that he goes to bed at 7pm sleeps till 530am or maybe 6am which I know is good, but he just doesn't no where to put all this energy.  I have all the strategies in place, behavioural management and visual times tables, now and next, but nothing is working.

I realise that with the summer holidays all our children are anxious because they are out of routine, but its more then that it is really bad and I can't split myself in two for my other son.

Their father has no contact and has left me to get on with it.  I get maximum respite for my eldest son and 8 hours amonth for the youngest plus 4 hours in this 6 week period.

Is this ASD or are my insticts telling me right?

  • Hi,

When my son was 6 we got two nights a month at the local respite unit. That was increased to 3 nights a month when he was 9. He then got 8 hours a week Direct Payments. During the summer holidays he goes to a complex needs summer playscheme 3 days a week for 4 weeks.

I know that it aries accross each authority but you do not appear to get much support
