Lack of structure?

Hi!

My son 19 has Aspergers. he has recently finsihed college after 3 years and has a part time job. He does not want to study more and cannot cope wiht the idea of finding a full time job away from his current job.

He seems to be struggling a lot with stress and anxiety at the moment. He has always found school holidays a struggle, and I am wondering if, having been at nusrsery, then school, then college, he is now struggling wiht a lack of routine and structure. His work days vary so he has no predictability at the moment ot his day to day routine.

I have a younger son with ASD and an older son wiht Aspergers who went from school to college to work fortunately and has never been in this situation. WE have no professional support at all at the moment and I am unsure if a trip to the GP may be any use.

Would love to now if this is a usual reaction to the end of college etc.

I think it's the normal reaction for anyone who doesn't have a career 'ladder' in front of them.  Suddenly you are thrown out into the world without the support structure that full-time education provided.  In your son's case it may also be that he feels he can't face a full-time job which may involve a certain amount of travelling.
