Childcare advice please

Hello,

I am very new to all of this - our son (6) was diagnosed in May this year. We suspected something was not quite right but didnt know until this year he had ASD.

He is high functioning ASD, so we have a lot of things to be thankful for it seems however his behaviour continues to be very challenging and particulary impacts on our 2.5 year old son and

7 year old daughter, neither of which has ASD.

I am struggling alone as my husband works long hours and I have no family nearby. I really need some help but so far attempts have failed, having au pairs seems to have varied success, some just can't commit themselves to the role, its pretty simple stuff, th behaviour can be challenging of course but I feel so disheartened when they decide to leave us.

so far I cant find an after school nanny to help us.

I would just like some support so that I can help my ASD son with his homework and to spend time with him as he needs and also my daughter with her homework and my youngest needs attention too.

I have a health condition which means that I get very tired at different points in the day so this is all th more difficult to manage.

I find the period after school once we are home to be particularly stressful right up until bed time. He makes noises, can antagonise my other two children and its just a very chared environment for everyone. At breakfast time he can cause a lot of chaos also and its just the start of the day...

I would really appreciate any advice on childcare options or where to find support.

Many thanks!

  • Thank you very much Nicky. I’ve used the parent to parent service and found this really helpful just to hear from another parent. Will check the local branch link now. Many thanks
