OMG I know exactly what you are talking about. I gave a diagnosis of autism on a plate at the age of 3 to the professionals over our adopted from birth son (from within the family) and they in their brilliant capacity gave him the label of insecure attachment disorder against me (the main one who has loved and helped him unconditionly). Suprise surprise when he started school and was referred to others instigated by me and school they then decided he is autistic!!He has a 0.8 statement which is like gold dust. 3 years after I had told them what was up and having already been through it with our birth son who has aspergers. (obviously I couldnt possibly know anything could I?!)
As you say stick to your gut feeling on what is right but don`t close up totally as there is always something to be learnt out there and some very helpful professionals.
