DLA refused for my autistic self harming son, please help

My son is 10 years old and been diagnosed with autism, sensory perseption disorder and severe anxiety. I applied for dla and we were refused so I asked for a mandatory reconsideration and they also refused now I am going to appeal I am completely bemused as to how they can say my son needs no more care than any other 10 year old he self harms so I am constant watch day and night, he has no personal hygiene so I have to do all thus for him. His anxiety is so high we have to plan everything in advance. He has one to one sessions in school and is on an IEP. How can they do this, has anybody else experienced this and what was the outcome? Any advice would be greatfully appreciated thank you

  • I guess the question is why would it cost more to care for your son due to his disabilities and therefore why would you/he benefit from the money?

Not being difficult there, just asking the question they will have been asking themselves when they made their decision .
