Moving to bristol area.

Hi,

We are moving to Bristol area from United states. Our kid has been diagnosed of autism. He is 2.5 years old.We both have 8 hour day jobs.

Here in the US, we are doing 2 hours of behavioral therapy sessions for him at home every day in the evening. We also send him to a special day care/pre nursery which has activities for children with communication and social difficulties.

We are hoping to find some information whether we can provide our child with similar therapy and care in Bristol area. Please let us know school names, programs etc available.

Thanks for your time. We would really appreciate any links, information or phone numbers.

Kristie.

  • Hi Kristie,

We live in Bristol. My daughter is 3 and was diagnosed a month ago. This means I am no great expert on autism services in the area but I can say that so far, we've had great support here.

I don't believe there is a special needs-specific nursery in the area, but most seem to have Special Education Needs Coordinators (SENCOs) who will help you to find the resources in your area that you need most.

I started writing a huge long post but there's so many things to tell you, it may be overwhelming!

When are you moving? To what part of Bristol are you moving to? I would be happy to help you.

I run a group for parents with autistic children that meets the last Tuesday of the month, in the evening, in south Bristol - in an area called Bedminster. Once you are settled (or any time), please get in touch with me via the group's webpage: www.meetup.com/Bristol-ASD-Parents-Group

I will be happy to explain what's what. I am American myself and so can talk you through the differences between health care systems, etc.

I look forward to hearing from you when you are ready.

    All the best,

    Kate
