Weighted blankets

Hello all,

My 13 year old daughter with ASD has major difficulties sleeping. She has sensory processing issues and I have been recommended to use a weighted blanket, which she wants to try. However having looked at a few suppliers they seem to be hugely expensive, and I'm worried about spending so much money when she could easily decide she doesn't like it.

She has also said she is worried about it being noisy.

Can anyone recommend a supplier who doesn't charge the earth, and can anyone who uses one advise if they make a noise? We are looking at ones with plastic pellets.

Thanks very much

  • Hello, try this list of top-rated weighted blankets. Most of the brands will give you a trial period, so you don't have to worry about return if your daughter won't like them.

  • Hi my friend makes weighted blankets they are nowhere near the prices that some of the others are charging. She uses the correct plastic beads that are non toxic can be washed and don't make a noise. She can do any size or weight and there are patchwork plain also any character ones she has just finished a boys marvel one. She also makes lap blanket to for when you are out. I know that she hasn't started to advertise anywhere yet as she has been making them for friends etc. She does use top quality materials but doesn't believe in charging the extortionate prices most of the people selling them do.

  • Thank you for replying. I don't think that will work for us as she tends to feel too hot even with heating low. Thanks anyway though.

  • Instead of a special expensive blanket, why not try a bunch of blankets stacked up, or maybe a really heavy duvet? It works great for me. You might need to set the thermostat a bit lower so she doesn't overheat but it's really comfy.
