no where suitable

My son is 7 and has ASD and challenging behaviour which has been getting worse over the past 6 months. He has a statement for full time 1-1 support in school but this isnt enough for him to cope at school. We have had input from OT and ASD outreach and are waiting for CAMHS. However school say they cannot accommodate him due to his extreme behaviour and are looking for alternative placement. The problem is that there isn't anywhere suitable for him to go. He is academically bright so cannot go to special schools in our area and there are no ASD units. The best they have come up with is a PRU for children with behavioural difficulties. I'm not really keen on this because its not specifically for ASD and i worry that he will pick up even worse behaviours. There is a school just out of the authority area that will be able to meet his needs but the authority won't agree to fund this.

Does anybody have any experience of challenging the authority to get funding for an out of area placement? Or does anybody have any experiences of how ASD kids get on in PRU's?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
