Repeating lines from tv programmes

Does/Did anyone's child do this? H (age 5, ASD & Epilepsy) doesn't have conversations with us atall, she just recites lines from kids tv programmes at us when you ask her a question. She doesn't listen to what we are asking or saying and just comes out with the same things over and over.

Hubby reckons she has always been like this but it is getting more and more apparent to me now - whenever anyone comes over she doesn't say hello to them, just spouts another phrase at them. Same when we go to other people's houses or the shops.

It is driving me mad, you can't get through to her atall - hubby says she is happy in herself and it is just one of the things she does but it is so frustrating getting nothing back from her.

Anyone any advice or experience of this?

  • Squidgy - I have just registered on here to respond to your posts (I saw the one from Feb before your daughter was diagnosed) as your little girls sounds VERY similar to my little boy and it would be great to chat!!!

Dylan is 4.5 and has severe epilepsy (epileptic encephalopathy) and thankfully his meds finally got the big seizures under control in November!! How is your daughter getting on with her Epilepsy??

Dylan is awaiting assessment for Autism and the things he does sound very similar to your little girl - I am at the point where I am very frustrated with the system and need answers!! Did you get a diagnosis at your appointment in Feb??

Thankfully Dylan already has one to one care at school due to his seizures and social/communication problems and they are hoping that will continue when he goes full time in September.

Would be great to get in touch with you.
