Hi I am after some advice....also to let off a bit of steam.
My son is 3 and was diagnosed with ASD when he was 2 1/2. We have fantastic support from all the professionals and he is making lovely (if limited progress). He currently attends a small playgroup 3 morning a week where he has 1:1 support.
We are going through statutory assessment and expect him to have a statement by July......all well and good!
The problem/issue is that in my area there are no special needs nurseries. The nearest local authority specialist nursery is 35 miles away. (Not at all practical to get to)
The nearest special needs nursery is 15 miles away across county borders....not too bad until I worked out that it will mean a weekly journey of 300 miles per week. And our local authority do not help with any sort of transport during nursery years.
I am in a real dilema! My son needs specialist nursery provision. He can't stay at his playgroup...we have been told on numerous occassions that he can't. He is likely to get a place across the county border but then we will have to get him there. Not only would logistically it be impossible for me to get him there for 9am...but also the financial cost of adding 300 miles per week to the family budget!!!!!
Can anyone offer any help! I don't know what help I need to be honest! I have spoke to contact a family who couldn't help...I don't know where else to go??
