son aged 6 just dignosed, school cant do enough for him, but is that the right?

my son aged 6 was excluded from school few times or i would have to collect him from school as the teacher rang not being able to control his behaviour.............Then when he was diagnoised withASD they changed to allowing my son not to do any work if he dosnt want to, they have gave him his own quiet place with toys etc, they are wonderful ow but is his best way to manage him as he very rarely is having any education and is not socialising with others

  • Hi Vickie.s I have a daughter who received a diagnosis of asd and is now 5. What worked a great deal for my daughter is inclusion at school, mixing up with normally developing children in family gatherings, play dates, activities, etc. These children can benefit a lot by observing others so they can learn every day social skills. I'm a little bit confused as why the school decided to keep your son in isolation. This does nothing for him really. He needs to be encouraged to play with others. Asd is part of him and not him. As many of us need to work hard on other areas of life, these children need to be shown how to work hard on their areas of need and it is us parents' and teachers' responsibility to teach them. They are bright, we need to approach them with a positive mind. one other thing I noticed in some schools and asd projects is that there is a great pressing on what this children are not able to do but their ability and talents are overlooked. In my daughter's case, we first focused on her strength and started teaching her by using them to address her areas of needs. It works wonders. Please let me know if you need tips in educating your son, language issues, learning play skills, etc.
