I bought an autism alert card

just a bit of critical feedback, and I know NAS is a charity with limited funding, but if this is something we pay £2.50 for couldn't they make the alert card an actual stiff card like a credit card? The card I got seems very flimsy and despite being plastic looks flimsy enough like I would be able to tear it in half if I tried.

Sounds like the card might also be autistic with those traits...

    sorry

  • OK! I am Autistic myself, and so I get into a lot of "social" trouble myself (in real life and so far upon the Internet here as well). But what I do, is to use the WALLET mostly, rather than the CARD, that is to say, the blue wrapper into which you are supposed to put the card.
For people that already know that you are Autistic, you need not use either. For people who do not know, show them the Wallet (it should say: "AUTISM ALERT"! upon it). For persons who DOUBT that you are Autistic at all... then you might be asked to produce the card, for it contains your own membership number in case of, well, "confirming" matters for an emergency (e.g. to the police or similar).
Overall I mean to say, that when going out and about, carry the Card inside its Wallet. And show the Wallet first, and then only the Card if needs must. As you say, the Card is quite flimsy, and so do not "handle" it as much...
(A digression: NAS gives out a new card every year (so far). And also you might also have a try at RE-LAMINATING it. Or have a go at sending it back if you can spare it at times...)

  • It would be nicer if they are more durable, I was thinking of buying some too, and would probably keep them with me for long before having courage to give it to anyone (like the shop that I touch all the products in lol). But maybe because it's just to give out in situations, I don't think other people would keep it when they get home (they already know then that you have autism)....I want something more detailed and durable to give to those who I see from family or work etc. But I wouldn't mind paying more for that :s
