Biggest flaw with the UK mental health system

If somone does or says something that isn't considered "socially acceptable", mental health services don't give a s**t in understanding why you said or did that. Noone ever asks "why did you do that?". It's always "You are in poor mental health! You need medication!" followed by a prescription of medication whether you need it or not. I did not need risperidone. Risperidone put me in that pscyh ward. You put me in that pscy ward. All that could have been avoided if someone had just listened to me instead of just ignoring me and pressuring me to take powerful medication like risperidone which has utterly horrific side effects.

  • It sounds like you are locked into a fairly horrible loop,  you are making sense to me but probably do sound a bit paranoid if Im being objective but if you are on the end of this mistreatment it is entirely understandable,  can you pause and consider our small perspectives? ()

  • I have been in a psych. ward for 3.5 weeks and you know what? I got more respect and eye-contact from the fellow patients than I did from the actual staff.

IMO I think it's a case of "I have power over you therefore I am too good to look at you". People who get jobs as nurses or support workers get a feeling of power and therefore feel like they are "better" than those than those they are paid to support.

And one nurse employed by NHS Ayrshire and Arran actually called me an "ugly ***" in hospital because I have a facial transfiguration. I'm not making this up.

  • pew you are coming across as an articulate person you are no idiot,I think the system has let you down badly,we see it time and time again on here, posts with titles like"help I am desperate"."I can't cope any longer" it just keeps coming.we the sufferers are trying to help in our own way,we are not as strong as we think we give what we can. Please know for what it's worth we all care,it upsets us to know that you are struggling.

where is the bloody help for all these human beings?

I want to put my arms around you buddy and hold on tight,

  • And even social workers who come to see me will look at the carpet during the entire meeting because OMG I HAVE A FACE THAT LOOKS BURNT OMG THE POOR SOCIAL WORKER'S POOR DELICATE EYES what are my rights? I am not happy. If a social worker is to see me I expect him/her to make eye contact and treat me with respect.

  • That's the problem with humans in general. People are judged based on how they look. People who do not look good will be treated badly. That's it in a nutshell. Sad but true.
