The word ABUSIVE?

I recently noticed that if you are deemed to have written something on here that for some reason is considered inappropriate then you will be accused of being "Abusive". Anyone can report any response.I imagine the first you would know about would be a message or email from admin?

So rather than offering this as a suggestion to admin for consideration as an improvement to the site I would find out what other members thought of the term abusive before asking for it to be changed.

well my understanding and the oxford Living dictionary understand that the word "abusive" means.

1)Extremely offensive and Insulting.

2)Engaging in or characterised by habitual violence and cruelty.

3)Involving injustice or illegality.

Strong powerful word with extremely hard hitting definitions.

It is always an option under each post in the box"more" report as abusive.

The word is generally used by the media to report abuse of children or partners of an abusive relationship.not a word used lightly.

May I humbly suggest the word better suited could be "OFFENSIVE".unless you the members think otherwise.

Offensive definition.

1)Causing someone to feel resentful, upset or annoyed.

2)Actively aggressive,attacking.

I would imagine anyone receiving an email telling them they are an "ABUSER" would be very hurtful and could effect their well being?

It could cause an individual to decide life is no longer worth living.

Of coarse we should ALL remember rule 4)Be nice to one another and enjoy chatting with others. We encourage conversation and respectful debate,However insulting posts or comments making personnel jibes will not be tolerated.

not sure they are the definitions for abusive?,maybe extremely insulting?

Maybe the word jibe could replace abusive?in the report box?

Jibe meaning.

1)noun;An insulting or mocking remark;a taunt.

verb;making insulting or mocking remarks;Jeer.

Even better would be the word"REPORT".

Many thanks for your thoughts.
