Username!

Hi all a question for the moderators nothing serious. It has always puzzled me that new members who register have a NAS12345 type of user name.

Maybe a short term thing?

Just wondered how long it stays like that?

why the name they register with doesn't come up?

I didn't notice when I joined if my username was there or a number.

like in the popular series"The Prisoner" "I am not a number".we are not robots or commodities (or are we;)?he he he.

thank you.

  • I think my husband would definely define himself as the one in charge! But hey, he is very old school in his mindset....or (psst) just very insecure

Please that my anatomical arrangements are not a bother! Lol.... are your posts are always very lovely...

  • Now..there is the Elephant in the room......"...identify yourself"....lol

I didn't want to be identifiable by gender but yet it was originally other women I wanted to connect with because that felt safer. But I can see that it's useful to be able to tell. I have surprised myself by feeling ok chatting to Tom and Lonewarrior.

Do you still feel like you are an elephant in the room on here or can this be a place where you are not ( says she sticking to misfit!)? You call and identify yourself what you feel comfortable with ..

  • Hi all, thank you missy61.it was supposed to make you smile, dear X if I go back over your posts I will no doubt find out if you are male, female or cross gender,it matters not to me! But society has taught me that ladies should be treated with respect and politeness,as do men ,,,,,but society has dictated that men are  strong and more resilient! Sadly these stereo types are just that,no reality of actual real life.

  • Hi Warrior..

do you that you should be able to distinguish gender by username....for example...when I first joined this hub of mis-wired peeps I was firstly keen to identify with other Aspie women....

i gave myself the name Elephantintheroom....as that is what I perceive myself to be...then changed to x as was starting to strip my account details with a view to exiting the room...

should the elephant tag return....or should it change again.....

with the current name x I might be taken for a bloke called Malcolm....or a small kiss.....or the place where treasure can be found!!

Hey Lonewarrior. I did notice. It made me smile Blushand it's just fine. Endearing. Sometimes think it should be hissyfit too! I still feel like a misfit at the moment but you never know I might change it to something pretty one day. Yes that's right I'm female. Carry on I quite like it.

  • I always try to be positive and you didn't notice in a reply to you a while back I typed "missy61" no harm intended.Oh I have assumed you are female!!! Please tell me if I am wrong,I will beg for forgiveness lol.

It's part of the newbie learning curve. It stays like that til the newbie sees other people have usernames and then finds profile. Then work out how to use profile. Some people choose not to have a username so stick with the number. Well at least I think that's the answer! On re reading and second thoughts ..I don't know why the name we choose on registration doesn't just pop up either. When I did find profile I didn't realise it was after my username... what a twit. I can't remember The Prisoner.. arh just watched opening clip.. looks good. Will have to try to find full episodes. Funny my sister and I were only recently talking about 1960's and 70's tv programmes the other day And now just saw you put a link to the opening clip .. my brain is straining today!

Misfit here something going wonky. I started looking to see what questions have been left unanswered because it does seem a shame when no one replies or new people don't get an hello.

  • Hello friends good to see you still pop in for a chat or to help others.

I only realised when I welcomed a new comer here, they replied "why am I appearing as NAS24221 when I chose a nickname comparable to yours?".

I must be a softy as it upsets me when newcomers don't get any response straight away.

uh oh my head is overloading as bonniepurple's comment came up whilst I'm typing and tom is typing now! Well I must learn to type quicker.

don't know Kafka? Agree with tom about prisoner being a bit like life as an aspie That's in my humble non professional opinion.

  • I think I've just sorted mine - you have to set up your profile.

  • I thought they remained a number because they hadn't chosen a name, it is very confusing when there's a lot of numbers around to tell them apart. Never seen The Prisoner but Kafka's The Trial certainly had me transfixed as a teenager.
