Upset-advice needed

Hi all not sure if this is the right place to post

I have a 4 yr old who just turned 4 in May and has been at pre school part time since last sept- since feb his teacher has been telling me his displays signs of autism

Now i am no stranger to autism-i have an 18yr old with aspergers and a 12yr old with adhd

Since feb she has been pressuring me to go to the gp and start the assesment process which i have not done  A- because i dont agree with her and B because of his age

She arranged for him to be assesed in school by an ed pycsch without my consent and based on her assessing him for one hour they have decided he probably has autism,

Whats making me upset and angry is that they have labelled him special needs and are treating him differently in school (yesterday on a school trip he was made to wear a hi viz vest and had SEN next to his name on the class list)

They have self diagnosed him based on gthe fact that his nursery teacher has an autistic brother and therefore feels she is an expert.

This is not a case of me being in denial if i thought he had signs of autsim i would have taken him to the gp long before now- i have attended many autism groups/courses, read books even took and Open uni course in the autistic spectrum.

I am just angry at the way they have labelled him without any formal diagnosis, Can they do this?

Thanks for listening

Lou x

I would start by phoning the county council disability services and discussing what is going on.

ASD is a medical diagnosis. You (and his father) as your son's legal guardian must consent to anything done in a medical context. I'm pretty certain you're allowed to refuse, but you may end up having to change preschools.

This was a reason a good friend was forced into home schooling...
