Any autism friendly forums please?

Hi,

I'm sick of being attacked by moderators. In the first instance with petty name calling from both sides, maybe it was fair. But apparently even asking another poster to answer a few questions is considered a heated debate.

If this forum is for neurotypical relatives only, can the NAS specify that it's not autism friendly please. The time of those with autism is just as precious as that of NAS volunteers.

I was under the impression that an autism forum should be primarily for those with autism. We have problems with all issues listed as categories. But where do we fit in any of them, if we're denied a voice. If there's a need for parents or relatives to ask questions, then shouldn't there be a separate forum specifically for neurotypicals or those easily offended.

Wow, is this a real thing? I understand rules and guideline because no one wants bullying or anything but people are different and express things differently. How can there be a set 'way' to express views. My rule is 'dont be a ***' and everything should be ok.

ClaireHig I sympathise. This has happened before, last year several respected and valuable forum members of several years standing were no longer allowed to post here. There was no swearing, abuse or other bad behaviour, they just expressed views in a way that isn't allowed here.

We've asked before for a separate forum for autistic people only but this was refused

Thank you. Yes, I just found this out from another thread. I wouldn't have even visited this site if I'd have known. I'm off elsewhere now, it's anti-autistic here. This site reminds me of my life as a child, with forced conformation. Where my voice was silenced & I wanted to die inside.

    Hi ClaireHig.

Have you tried the Asperger and ASD Online Forum (at www.asd-forum.org.uk) perhaps?

Thank you. I've never seen that site before. Even the colours seem soothing to me. Blue just looks more genuine than the candy floss pink the NAS use.

  • Hi ClaireHig.

  • A lot of my posts have been deleted. With only minor issues wrong with them. For instance a word such as ignorant was used. But the rest of the post contained nothing offensive. Yet it was all deleted. And in many cases I'd spent a long time forming my response. Due to my autism & other problems it can take voice recognition a long time to write what is being said.

Recently I received an email from a moderator, after some of my posts were deleted. It basically told me my post had been in breach of policy & had been removed. After this I refrained from using any words such as ignorant. My posts were within guidelines so were other posters. But today we still received an email berating us for a so called 'heated debate'. It threatened an inability to post, if I made similar posts.

  • Hi Claire,

Can you please elaborate on why you feel like you've been attacked by the moderators? And why you feel the forum isn't autism friendly?
