Why music is so important for me

Music seems to be the only way for me to escape the massive pressures of my everyday life. I have tried to describe why that is and what music means to me. You can read it here if you like:

  • Music was one of the things that I swear that saved our sanity and my daughters. When she was at school she would often come home, stomp upstairs and play music loudly for a while. When she was ready she would come down and spend a little time with us before returning to her room and listen to her music.

She started going to local gigs when she was 12, with ear plugs firmly in to bring the volume down to an acceptable level for her.

Personally I always found ironing and embroidery were my escape. Once I developed long term sciatica though I started finding travelling was one of the key stress points for me. I now find listening to music reduces that stress for me significantly and makes the daily commute bearable. For me it tends to be classical music or musicals which I find the most soothing.
